Dainty on Toorak is the South Yarra restaurant of the Dainty Sichuan group and describes itself as the only Sichuan restaurant in Australia awarded a hat by The Age Good Food Guide. Its a la carte menu is split between signature spicy dishes such as Chongqing chilli chicken and ma po tofu and a separate non-spicy section built on Berkshire pork char siu, black cod and free-range chicken, with a live seafood list priced seasonally. Is Dainty on Toorak BYO?: Yes. Red and white wine may be brought in at $10 corkage per bottle, and in the main dining room baijiu and whisky are allowed at $30 per bottle. There is also a house wine list.
Where can I park near the restaurant?: The restaurant points diners to the Daly Street car park, about a three-minute walk away, which has 620 spaces, stays open until 11pm and charges a flat $18 in the evening. For lunch it suggests metered parking on Toorak Road instead.
Are there non-spicy dishes?: Yes. A whole section of the menu is set aside for non-spicy cooking, including Berkshire pork char siu, sweet and sour black cod and black truffle free-range chicken, and the kitchen can adjust the heat on most other dishes.
